I love nothing more than going out to eat, granted that I don't eat out half as often as I used to so it's nice when we do get the opportunity to. We were recently invited to The Beeches restaurant in Wrexham to try out their menu so of course we couldn't say no, especially as it mean't a day off cooking and washing up for me! Wrexham is around an hour away from us so I asked my parents if they fancied joining us for a family meal.
I have heard of The Beeches before as it's part of a chain of hotels and restaurants which I used to work for so know the type of decor and service we would expect, however the restaurant itself has recently undergone a refurbishment and I was interested in seeing how this differed to how it would have previously looked. I believe it used to be a "Table Table" restaurant which is actually the brand of restaurant I used to work at, and it's now ran by "Whitbread Inns" which I hadn't heard of before since I left the company over 4 years ago.
The restaurant was pretty easy to find and is adjacent to a Premier Inn along with plenty of parking. Upon entering the restaurant we were immediately impressed by the atmosphere and decor and admired this whilst waiting to be seated. The hostess which I assumed is also the manager greeted us and took us over to our table. As we had booked a table at 1pm it was pretty busy and we did have to wait a little while to be seated, however we were greeting with a warm welcome and were acknowledged straight away.
Given the fact that we were only a table of three adults, a child and a highchair we were given a rather large table which would easily sit six or eight people, which I thought was very generous of them as it meant we had more room for the kids. Luckily the restaurant wasn't too busy at the time otherwise I would have felt bad for taking up a larger table.
Once seated we were immediately given menus, told about the specials and asked whether we would like to order some drinks. We were also asked if we would prefer a wooden or plastic highchair for Harry which I thought was nice to be given the choice as the wooden highchairs can be quite big for his age. We all thought the menu was pretty extensive and we were all easily able to choose something we liked, although they had sold out of one of the pies which my dad was going to order but the waitress was very attentive and mentioned she would go and check if they had any left as they were running low that day.
I felt that the whole order process was very smooth and efficient, we weren't rushed at all and were given plenty of time to decide whilst getting the kids settled. Our drinks also arrived pretty quickly too and Amelia was given a colouring pack to keep her occupied. I did notice a bit of food on the floor which I assume was from the previous table who had kids however seeing as they were quite busy when we arrived it didn't bother me but I know some people wouldn't have liked that.
There was plenty of choice on the kids menu too and there's also a fantastic deal where kids eat free Monday to Saturday if you order before 5pm which I think is great especially for families with more than one child! As we were dining on a Sunday that deal wasn't available to us, however there is another deal which runs when the other one doesn't which includes a main and two sides for just £3.99 and you can add a starter or desert for free! Amelia chose her usual when we go out to eat; pizza, chips and garlic bread although there were sausages, popcorn chicken, pasta, hot dogs, burgers and many other mains to choose from if you don't have a fussy child who only eats pizza!
We didn't have to wait too long, roughly around 20 minutes which is standard and our meals arrived. We decided to have desert instead of starters and my mum ordered the slow cooked pork shoulder (£13.99) which looked delicious! The pork literally fell apart and was really mouthwatering. It looked like a decent size portion and my mum really enjoyed it.
My dad decided on a roast turkey dinner (£8.99) seeing as they had sold out of the pie. I thought the meal looked very appetising especially as sometimes when you go out for a roast dinner you never know what to expect we were all impressed! He said there was plenty of everything and even gravy which was good as I find you always have to ask for more gravy!
For my main I ordered the Thai Green Chicken Curry (£9.69) with a side of chips which is my staple meal when I go out to eat especially at similar restaurants. Even though I've had the meal plenty of times before I enjoyed this even more! It had a lot of flavour and was very filling.
We all thought that the meals were great value for money and would all order them again if we were to dine there again. We really enjoyed each dish and would definitely recommend them, Amelia ate all of her lunch which she never usually does so that was a surprise. Our waitress (Emma) came over to check on us a couple of times throughout our meal and was very attentive, and asked whether we needed a top up of drinks or any other sauces. Our table was cleared quickly once we had all finished and we were offered the desert menu which we accepted.

Harry was very well behaved and although I brought his own lunch along he even somehow managed to sneak a bit of Amelia's pizza when she wasn't looking! I swear this boy eat's better than she does! In between courses Amelia sat quietly and did some colouring or played some games on her iPad. She usually gets restless pretty quickly when we go out to eat so I have to ensure I bring along plenty of things to keep her occupied.
After we finally reached a decision we ordered some deserts, Amelia ordered the kids Scary Face Sundae which was included in her deal I didn't manage to get a photo as she had already tucked into it before I got a chance. Must have been that good huh!? I ordered the rocky road sundae although I didn't manage to eat it all it was rather good! I do love a good sundae! My parents shared a warm chocolate fudge cake which was very tasty. We all left feeling stuffed to bursting and very satisfied.
Overall we had a pleasant experience and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would highly recommend dining at The Beeches whether you're eating out as a couple, on business, as a family, a quick bite to eat or a celebration as they cater for everyone. I think they're very family friendly which is great and very welcoming. Thank you to our wonderful waitress Emma and the rest of the team at The Beeches, we will definitely return when we're back down that way again.

This looks like a lovely place to visit. Quick question, did the children's menu offer a free drink that WASN'T a soft drink? Whenever I go out with the kids, the only drink options available seem to be Coke, Sprite or Tango. Do they offer milk or juice instead? If so I will definitely be paying a visit.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks lovely! Was the thai curry spicy? I'm a fan of HOT curries so it has to be spicy! Looks like the kids enjoyed their meals too. Teehee.
ReplyDeleteThe food looks so yummy and beautifully presented. I love how it's family friendly, Little L can be nightmare in restaurants and can also be fussy when it comes to food. The interior looks lovely. I definitely need to try this out as it's probably only an hour away from us :)
